A swimmer with one leg only provides one of the best brands of crossing the Strait of Gibraltar

It covered the distance in just 3 hours. Have to go back to August 2007 for a swimmer who managed to lower the barrier of three hours.

Italian swimmer has one of the best brands in the crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar swim despite having covered the distance between the two sides with one leg.

Paralympian swimmer Nyree Lewis receives MBE (GBR)
June 16th 2009

PARALYMPIC swimmer Nyree Lewis has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Miss Lewis, of Credenhill, has represented Great Britain for nine years, winning nine medals over three Paralympic Games.

The 28-year-old is the fiancée of fellow Herefordshire Paralympian swimming star Sascha Kindred, who collected an OBE in March.

Daniel Dias has been awarded the Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year, with a disability (BRA)

BRAZILIAN swimmer Daniel Dias has been won the Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award.

Dias who won four golds, four silvers and a bronze at the Water Cube said he was ‘overwhelmed' with the award, which he received at the site of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in London.

One of Scotland's most successful paralympic athletes has spoken of his shock after being awarded a second honour in less than five years.

Swimmer James Anderson has represented Great Britain at the Paralympic Games on five occasions, scooping 17 medals in total.

Paralympic swimming gold medallist Liz Johnson has stepped up her preparations for London 2012 by changing her training base from Swansea to Bath.

The 23-year-old is back in training after recovering from a shoulder injury she carried during her victory in the SB6 100m breastroke in Beijing.

A NOTTS man who led British swimmers, including Ellie Simmonds, to one of their most successful Paralympic Games in Beijing has picked up an OBE.

Tim Reddish, national performance director for British Disability Swimming and chairman of the British Paralympic Association, received his award at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

Eleven-time Paralympic champion David Roberts was in shock after he set a new world record in the 400m freestyle at the International Open in Manchester.

The Welshman shattered his own record by two seconds at the Aquatics Centre.

The 28-year-old, who swims in the S7 category, touched in 4.50.35 seconds to earn 1021 points.

The swimmer Daniel Dias, more Paralympic medalist in Beijing, has new sponsor: the Institute Presbiteriana Mackenzie. With over 40 thousand students and this in five Brazilian cities - Barueri, Brasília, Campinas, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo - the Mackenzie is one of the largest educational institutions in the country. Daniel has only four-year career and is one of the best swimmers in the world. Paralympic Games in Beijing won nine medals and four world records and was the only Brazilian athlete given the Laureus Sports Awards in 2009, the "Oscar" of the sport worldwide.
